Alexa Cushing has been pretty darn aggravated by much of Madonna’s US press. Zeitgeist is a big word, and it’s not mine, talking about Madonna. It belongs to the London Times and their reporting on this latest celebrity divorce.
Pretentious or not, zeitgeist does describe Madonna’s timing trajectory over the years. We may be disappointed with the pending divorce, but as the London Times asserts, Madonna represents at 50 the state of many women’s lives.
Her independence and desire to fly solo resonate with women, who no longer need a man to feel complete or sustain them economically. Select music critics and a Washington Post fashion critic can write that Madonna is out of sync with women’s lives, but they are wrong.
The London Times article makes a strong case that Madonna is again the symbol of a new breed of women.
